The position of the economy in the business cycle: Its importance for fiscal policy and banking business

Identifying in real time the location of the economy in the business cycle is relevant to macroeconomic policy making as well as for prudent banking business practices. We show that the position of the economy in the business cycle (positive or negative) can be identify with relatively high degree of accuracy which facilitates drawing consistent and prudent policies.
